ATA Certification
The American Translators Association offers certification in specific “language pairs” This is the most recognized credential for freelance and agency translation.
CCHI & NBCMI
While not always a “license” in the legal sense, hospitals and clinics almost exclusively hire those with national certifications to comply with federal health regulations.
Court Interpreter (LCI)
Most states use exams from the National Center for State Courts (NCSC). Must pass written and oral exams to be listed as a “Certified” or “Licensed” court interpreter.
